In 20 years we've never had a data integrity issue. Data integrity is maintained programmatically. The E1 database does not use stored procedures or referential integrity at the database level. The bulk of that project focused mainly on retro-fitting the external interfaces to point to the SQL Server database.
The actual migration from Oracle to SQL Server was completed over a weekend. Several years ago we choose SQL Server as our database of choice and we were running E1 on Oracle.

Pros: The JDE E1 software will run on multiple database platforms. But if it did look a little more modern, I think it would be more widely accepted among younger users. But one tends to look past the look and focus more on the functionality. The feature that I like least about Oracle is some menu options do look a little old world as compared to more modern apps that we're used to. You can play around with it and pretty much learn most of it by yourself.

It takes very little training from the outside to learn how to use it, as long as you have access to the features. And the other feature that I love most about Oracle is how user-friendly it is. The first one are called the favorites feature, where if one runs multiple reports on any given day, one doesn't need to start from scratch in the menus, one can run them from one's favorite menu. There are two features in Oracle that I liked the most. I use Oracle on a daily basis to solve production related issues, particularly customer complaints, and also to look up on time completion of pack products on our way to the customer. I work as an operational excellence and quality assurance manager in the paper and forest products industry, and I give Oracle a rating of five.
